Dianne R. Ziegler’s artwork reflects her personality – colorful.

Her debut art show opens during February’s Art Crawl at BeansTalk with 20 paintings and charcoal sketches.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Ziegler, a junior art education major, is showcasing her collection that she said represents the past four
years of growing as an artist, her love of music, her buddies and also nudes.

“I love music because of the way it moves me,” she said. “I like to use color and flowy lines because it
suggests movement."

Her passion for music is evident in her favorite piece in the show, “Sitar” - an abstract painting
representing the Indian instrument with striking lines.

“I like it because the colors are yummy and rich,” Ziegler said.

Other highlights are the psychedelic “The Trip” which features a van driving into a Rolling Stones-esque
mouth, and “Colorful Coincidences,” another abstract.

Ziegler is excited to be a part of the Art Crawl.

“It’s really neat to be on the list,” she said. “It will bring people to the show and give them the chance to
see all kinds of artwork.”

Ziegler designed the posters for her show, picked out the music to play during the event and hired Chef
Will Burrell of Meadowbrook Inn to bake pastries and cake.

“I’m doing this to do it,” Ziegler said of her show, as she is not required to display her work publicly as
studio art majors are.

Her enthusiasm for art has offered her additional opportunities.

She was recently hired as an artist and graphic designer for the Charlotte-based clothing line Kick Ace.

She wants to put her name out there and also support her friend Wil Bryan, the proprietor of BeansTalk,
who offered his space to her for about a month.

Bryan said Ziegler was an inspiration to him in his stressful time of opening a shop.

He was sitting outside the shop before it opened when Ziegler and some of her friends were extremely
enthusiastic about the new space.

“There was a week where I was unsure if the shop would go under,” Bryan said. “And [Ziegler’s]
enthusiasm got me through that hard time.”

The two became friends and when Ziegler showed Bryan some work from her portfolio, Bryan said he
had to have her show.

Bryan’s focus on community makes his participation in this month’s Art Crawl all the more meaningful,
as he sees it as a great way for local artists and businesses to get together and enjoy being in Boone.

This is the third art show at BeansTalk and it will be on display on the second floor of the shop until
Feb. 22.

Ziegler will have some of her paintings for sale, with prints and posters also available.

BeansTalk is located at the intersection of King and College streets.
