Green Mother Goods, the new kid on the block among King Street shops, is a small store with big ideas.
“We are an environmentally conscious, fair trade-based shop that has something for everyone, and has the feel of an eco-friendly general store,” co-owner Annie Goodson said. “It is very important to us that none of our products were made in sweatshops, so we make it a point to research all of our products heavily before carrying them, in order to make sure that everything we sell was made by individuals who have been paid fairly for their labor.”

| Although Green Mother Goods only had it’s official opening day Dec. 1, 2007, customers can already find several fair trade goods available.
The store’s products range from local to global and include everything from artwork to children’s toys.
Inventory for the store is always growing and changing.
“We also offer special holiday and seasonal gifts that include pesticide-free trees and wreaths for
Christmas, as well as handmade cards for Valentine’s Day made with recycled paper, which give
customers a wide variety of alternative gift giving options that are safer for their homes and the earth,”
said Goodson.
The store is owned and run by Annie Goodson, Debbie Golembieski, Meredith Anders, and Christie
Frenburg.
When asked how they met and decided to open a store together, Golembieski said, “We met simply
through being moms, and opened Green Mother together because of the lack of safe, environmentally-
friendly fair trade goods available in most shops.”
Green Mother hopes to fill a niche for such goods in Boone, while also keeping their merchandise
reasonably priced.

“Our goal is to keep prices low so that people can afford to buy quality products that make a
difference, not just as novelty items, but for their everyday lifestyle,” Goodson said.
Wakanda Rose, a Green Mother Goods customer, believes the store is extremely unique.
“I think that Green Mother Goods is a very exciting store. I feel good about knowing that the people
making the goods are getting a fair wage for their time and effort,” she said.
Rose believes it is important for the community to make sure stores such as Green Mother Goods
flourish, not only for the local economy but for the entire green movement as well.
