The alleged gunman broke into a senior Appalachian State University student’s Appalachian South apartment before 3:15 p.m.
The renter of the apartment, senior English major Matthew W. Haney, said he walked into his apartment this afternoon and saw a man wearing a Pink Floyd T-shirt and holding a handgun.
Upon seeing the man, Haney said he ran from his apartment and drove to the Appalachian South Management Co.
“I saw [the gunman was holding something] small metallic and black,” Haney said. “That’s really all I really took in. It was a gun. It was small. It was metallic. It was black. I ran. I think I startled him because he turned around and had a gun out and he was wearing the mask.

| “I just kind of turned and ran…and as soon as I got in my car he just came running out and went [down the hill beside the apartments].”
Haney’s description of the man matched that of University Police.
“He was wearing a Pink Floyd T-shirt, that is one thing I do remember,” he said. “He was wearing one of those prism shirts. That’s the one thing I do remember. He was wearing a dark side of the moon Pink Floyd T-shirt and wearing a dark coat, dark mask, blue jeans.”
If you have any other information relating to the gunman, please call The Appalachian's office at (828) 773-2021.
