Headbands make headlines
There is one accessory that seems to make a return with the passing of every fashion season. Like basics, it never goes out of style.
It is ubiquitous; not something to be forgotten in our carefree days of childhood, along with tacky scrunchies of yesteryear. Designers’ stylists turn to these for a quick 1,2,3 transformation that provides looks with cohesion.
Designer
Betsey Johnson crafted flowered and designer Erin Fetherston fabricated
whimsical feathered ones for their 2008 collections.
No, I’m not talking about bouquets or even Big Bird-like party hats. I’m talking about headbands!
Having a bad
hair day? Depending on the dilemma of damage, try pulling back your
hair into a ponytail or bun and add the final touch of a headband. Or,
just push a headband onto the crown of your head and be on your way.
They are cheap, easily replaceable, and for anyone.
I was recently
working out with a friend and in between reps of crunches and leg
lifts, we discussed the current fashion trends.
Leggings, out.
Unless, of course, you dare to wear a barely-there dress, in which case
leggings are instantly back in style. It just depends on the outfit.
Wallabys and Uggs, in.
Headbands,
definitely in. She had recently worn a headband in an unconventional,
quirky way – upon her forehead. Her family called her a hippie, telling
her never to wear such a thing again. She looked ridiculous! Her
boyfriend called her a ninja fighter.
She was shopping
the racks of vintage-inspired clothing from Urban Outfitters when she
finally received approval for her ninja-hippie-headband choice that
most Cobrasnake.com hipsters are wearing around the hippest and hottest
parties of New York City.
Sometimes,
people just don’t understand modern stylistic choices that make the
individual resemble a 1920’s flapper, a ninja, or a hippie.
Whether flowered, feathered, plastic, or elastic, headbands make a smart and chic alternative accessory.
Forget the criticism – flapper, ninja, hippie. Look instantly glamorous with the help of a headband.
