Student charged with false report

Matthew W. Haney, the senior English major who caused a lockdown on campus after fabricating the story of a gunman in his apartment, has been charged by Boone Police.

Haney is charged with filing a false police report, which is a misdemeanor.

He is scheduled to appear in court in April.
Noose found on campus

A noose was found on campus Feb. 8 in Chapell Wilson Hall and a campus-wide press release was sent out yesterday.

After reviewing all of the information the assistant district attorney decided March 10 that no crime had been committed and no charges would be filed.

Two open sessions have been scheduled for students to talk about the impact this incident is having on them.

One was held last night and a second will take place today from 2-4 p.m. in the Multicultural Center of Plemmons Student Union.
