| Student charged with false report
Matthew W. Haney, the senior English major who caused a lockdown on campus after fabricating the story of a gunman in his apartment, has been charged by Boone Police.
Haney is charged with filing a false police report, which is a misdemeanor.
He is scheduled to appear in court in April.
Noose found on campus
A noose was found on campus Feb. 8 in Chapell Wilson Hall and a campus-wide press release was sent out yesterday.
After
reviewing all of the information the assistant district attorney
decided March 10 that no crime had been committed and no charges would
be filed.
Two open sessions have been scheduled for students to talk about the impact this incident is having on them.
One was held last night and a second will take place today from 2-4 p.m. in the Multicultural Center of Plemmons Student Union.
Appalachian featured in commercial
Appalachian State University has been featured in a new Nike commercial titled “Becoming Legendary.”
The commercial shows a clip of the Mountaineer logo in Owens Field House as a nod to the victory
over Michigan.
The commercial also shows clips of historic basketball and football wins.
Suspects arrested in UNC student’s death
Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder of University of North Carolina student body president Eve Carson.
Demario James Atwater, 21, and Lawrence Alvin Lovette, Jr., 17, have already been charged with the murder.
Lovette has also been charged in the murder of Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato.
Carson was found murdered March 5.
