Ample Example delivers an eclectic style of musicianship while still maintaining a sound that defines four Appalachian State University students as a band.

While practicing for their next performance, each member shared their songs, finding a balance within the music.

“We want to play an entire show [where] you don’t get tired of hearing the same thing,” Matt B. Dennis,
guitarist and junior finance major said.
Ample Example will play at 10 p.m. in Parthenon Café tonight. Special to the Appalachian

Ample Example established in September 2007 and has played the Parthenon Café and Black Cat Burrito venues.

They will play tonight at 10 p.m. in Parthenon Café.

Nick J. Lainas, owner of Parthenon Café, described Ample Example’s previous show as “great.”

He said everyone in the crowd was happy and mellow while dancing to the music.

“I hope to see you, and we’ll have a ball Thursday night,” Lainas said.

To complete their sound, no person is more important than another, the band members said.

The audience can expect to hear blended jams of funk, blues, and rock and roll with changes that will
make them pick up their head from dancing and watch the band perform.

“We’re trying to bring a style of music that’s a blend of every type of music we like,” David J.
Sentendrey, five-string bass guitarist and junior journalism major, said.

Each bass note is connected with the thump of the kick drum supplied by freshman recreational
management major, John W. Harris.

Harris uses his Pearl drum kit to provide an energetic rhythm for the crowd and band.

Junior business management major and keyboardist Sam L. Saussy creates a melodic companionship
with senior finance and banking major and guitarist Matt B. Dennis.

Dennis uses various pedals and effects to highlight each song.

Saussy searches for eye contact while playing, connecting with each member of the band, he said.

“Songs start with an idea,” Saussy said. “The jam is just letting that idea expand, letting it go.”

Along with their talent to play instruments, the band also displays songwriting ability.  Dennis,
Sentendrey, and Saussy spend equal time writing lyrics and singing their songs, Sentendrey said.

Some of their songs include “Subatomic,” “Walk Alone,” and “Just a Fool.”

A band member will bring in a song with parts, and the “jams” get written together, Dennis said.

The band said they are confident and have fun with what they are doing, and they want to take Ample
Example as far as it can go.

“As a band, all we can hope for is that people will give us a little bit of their time,” Sentendrey said.
“When it’s all said and done, we just want people to have as much fun grooving to the music as we do
performing it.”
