When one door closes, another door opens.
The Library Restaurant and Pub, which closed in early January, will soon re-open under new management and ownership.
New owner Dean Murphy said the re-opening of The Library is scheduled for Aug. 1.
Several changes will be made to the restaurant.
“We want to project a classy image,” said Murphy.

their skirts will be longer and their shirts will not be tied up.
The main room is being made into an entertainment area, and dining will be located in the adjoining room.
Some decorations from the restaurant under previous management will be kept, but new decorations will also be added.
The menu will be simpler and an area for dancing will be expanded.
Specials are also currently being planned for students.
Murphy believes students and faculty will enjoy the changes, and
believes they should be rewarded with “a nice place in the community.”
When asked his opinion about the current liquor by the drink
legislation, Murphy explained, “I don’t know if it will have a huge
impact on just one business, but I think it will help the economy of
Boone; more restaurants will open.”
Murphy believes many tourists choose not to visit Boone because they are denied the opportunity to order liquor by the drink.
“More tourists would bring more financial revenue to the town,” said Murphy.
Murphy hopes to attract tourists, students, and faculty to The Library.
“[Appalachian State University] students and faculty have brought $58
million dollars to Boone since 2006,” said Murphy. “They have really
helped the business in Boone expand.”
Murphy believes his approach to owning The Library will cause its re-opening to be a success.
“I will treat each of my employees with respect,” said Murphy.
Murphy said none of The Library’s old ownership personnel will be involved in the business.
“We’re now looking to employ around 30 people,” said Murphy.
Everyone, including previous employees, is encouraged to apply.
Nicholas E. Owings, a sophomore engineering major, is applying for a bartending position.
“I used to come when it was still in business; I was a regular,” said Owings.
Owings hopes the business does better this time around.
Jessica Anderson, a senior exercise science and health promotion major,
is looking forward to The Library’s opening under new management.
Anderson is interested to see how the liquor by the drink ruling will affect The Library.
“It will be a good spot to go to,” said Anderson. “I think it will give
students a place to go other than [the current bars in Boone].”
