The Holmes Convocation Center boomed with the sound of smooth country music from the Charlie Daniels Band playing the final concert of the Appalachian Summer Festival Saturday night.
Fans wearing cowboy hats and patriotic attire packed into the arena to catch a glimpse of the legendary Charlie Daniels as he fiddled a few tunes and then wailed his electric guitar for several more.
Generally, the final concert of the festival is held in Kidd Brewer stadium but due to construction, it was temporarily moved to the convocation center.
Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock took the stage to introduce the CEO of Blue Ridge Electric.
“The hills are truly alive, thanks to the generous sponsorship by Blue Ridge Electric,” he said.
Blue Ridge Electric has sponsored the festival for years, helping bring
hundreds of shows to Appalachian’s campus at an extremely affordable
price.
Daniels is a North Carolina native, born and raised in Wilmington N.C.
He has played with a large array of artists throughout his career
including: Ringo Starr, Flatts and Scruggs, Bob Dylan, and Pete Seeger.
The Charlie Daniels Band showed an array of talent not solely based on
a particular musical style, but on consistent values reflected in
several different music styles.
During Saturday’s performance, Daniel’s devoted a song to our entire
present and past military saying those who serve are the “best
Americans.”
The concert was followed by the annual firework display showering the night sky with an array of colors and shapes.
CDB fans and many more gathered throughout Boone to witness the
wonderful display marking the end of another successful Appalachian
Summer Festival.
