Enforcement of the smoking restriction on campus began June 1.
The policy, which allows for a smoke-free perimeter 50 feet within all buildings on Appalachian’s campus, was enacted after a North Carolina law was established regulating smoking at properties owned by a state university.
Those who violate the smoking restriction could be eligible for a ticket from University Police for up to $25.
Ashtrays have been removed from building entrances and were placed outside the 50-foot perimeter.
