The Town of Boone found itself with a multitude of new choices this past February.
Build Your Own Burger (BYOB), a locally owned restaurant off U.S. Highway 321, offers close to 80 options on their menu between bread, cheese, condiments, and premium toppings.
“It’s pretty
unique that you can get peanut butter and fried egg on a burger,”
restaurant manager Tom Christian said. “Now that people notice we have
things like peanut butter on the menu they order it a lot more. I’ve
had people put it on a hot dog before."
The premium
toppings at BYOB include flavors from all over the globe, like teriyaki
sauce and Asian

mayonnaise for an Eastern inspired burger, or a dash of
chipotle mayonnaise to add a southwestern kick.
“We have so many combinations...people never get tired of coming here,” Christian said.
BYOB customers can also choose between three burger sizes: quarter pound, half pound, and one pound.
The restaurant was started by owner Mike McMillion.
His inspiration was to provide restaurant quality products with fresh ingredients.
“People don’t usually get the quality they deserve when they go to fast food restaurants,” Christian said.
BYOB also offers wings, salads, ice cream and a Philly cheese steak using rib eye steak cut fresh every morning, Christian said.
The
options available at BYOB do not end with meat lovers, but extend to
please vegetarian palates like a veggie burger or a portobello mushroom
sandwich.
“One of BYOB’s signature menu options is the Mike’s Garbage Platter,” Christian said.
The
plate consists of tater tots, cole slaw, homemade macaroni and cheese
with a half-pound hamburger, two one-fourth pound hot dogs ,or two
fried eggs all covered with bean chili.
“Everything
but the slaw is covered in bean chili,” Christian said. “I’ve weighed
it before and it is a two and a half pound plate of food. Quite a few
people order that.”
