Student tailgate lottery proved successful
It has been heartening to all involved with Student Government to witness the large number of students entering the tailgate lottery.
For the Sept. 6th game, many of the passes were claimed by the 12 p.m. standby line opened in our office (for students who did not win a tailgate pass).
It is exciting to see our classmates claiming and using the passes that SGA worked so hard to secure.
However,
with great privilege comes great responsibility. SGA encourages our
classmates to make sure that they clean up after themselves in the
Raley and Greenwood lots.
To
assist in these efforts, ROTC and SGA members will be distributing
trash bags in these two lots. Please throw away all trash in these bags
or we will all lose the right to tailgate in these lots!
The high
demand for parking and the popularity of Appalachian’s athletic teams
make it unlikely that students will be assigned more spaces than we
currently have.
Let us take care of the spaces we have been granted to make sure that these areas stay student-only for a long time.

Health Department receives grant
Last week, the Appalachian District Health Department (ADHD) was
notified they were one of five county health departments to receive a
Childhood Obesity Prevention Demonstration Project grant in order to
impact childhood obesity in their community.
This
grant opportunity came without much notice, and the community partners
involved were quickly informed of this opportunity and willing to
assist in any manner necessary in order to receive this funding in our
county.
The list of partners is lengthy but we feel it is important that they all should be properly recognized.
With
utmost appreciation and gratitude the ADHD says thank you to
Appalachian State University, the Active-Appalachian Partnership,
Watauga County Schools, Blue Ridge Healthcare System, Watauga County
Healthy Carolinians, Town of Boone, and The Children’s Council.
Without
their valuable partnership and willingness to contribute in this great
project, this opportunity would not exist for our county. We look
forward to the next several months of working with all of our partners
and the community at large on this initiative.
We are
confident that Watauga County’s strong, established infrastructure is
what our NC Legislature envisioned when they approved the funding
toward this childhood obesity prevention effort.
