For more than five years Appalachian State University students and friends have been “getting sleepy, very sleepy.”
Hypnotist Jim Wand will be back Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium.
The show, sponsored by Appalachian Popular Programming Society Special Events, is free and open to the public.

“He’s such a hit
with students,” sophomore special education major and APPS member
Martha E. Eskridge said. “The show never gets old. Each show is
different with different students getting hypnotized, it’s
entertaining.”
Students who have never been to a hypnotist can expect a fun show.
“You can
only be hypnotized if you allow yourself to be,” Eskridge said. “People
watching can expect to see funny, unexpected silliness as a result of
his hypnosis.”
APPS and Eskridge encourage people to attend the show.
“[People
should go] because it’s fun and it’s free,” she said. “This is
something you don’t see everyday. You’ll get to see your fellow
students and friends engage in unusual behaviors and make fun of them
later, because they won’t remember a thing.”
She said the best part of the show is watching participants “wake up” after words.
“Jim
Wand once said only intelligent people have the ability to be
hypnotized,” she said, jokingly. “He then said that is why people at
Western [Carolina University] can’t be.”
Senior accounting major Ryan W. Ganfield has been to the show three times and was hypnotized each time.
“It’s
the most relaxing experience ever,” he said. “You wake up and it feels
like you’ve only been out for five minutes, in actuality it’s been over
an hour.”
Ganfield
also said being hypnotized is very energizing and recommends everyone
try to be hypnotized. He said there was nothing to be afraid of,
because it only happens if you let it happen.
“My recollection of the show is very vague,” he said. “I only remember what people have told me.”
Ganfield was told he once had to act like a Pussycat Doll while he was hypnotized.
“From what I was told, it’s a show you don’t stop laughing at,” he said. “It’s probably one of the best free shows APPS brings.”
