Eagles host Giants on Sunday night

The 7-1 New York Giants will travel to Philadelphia to square off with the 5-3 Eagles, on Sunday Night Football.

Both teams are coming off wins, the Giants who beat the Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys 35-14, and the Eagles who marched over the Seahawks 26-7.

For the Super Bowl champion Giants, the 2008 season has started off as best as they could have hoped, minus a Monday Night Football loss in Cleveland.

Running back Brandon Jacobs has powered through defenses. At 6’4” and 264 pounds, he’s not your stereotypical running back, but his size is a mismatch for most defenses.

The Eagles have been in the thick of the NFC playoff hunt, largely credited to Brian Westbrook having a strong rushing and receiving season, while Donovan McNabb is staying healthy.

They have also been surprised by rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is leading the team in receptions with 34 and making a case for rookie of the year votes.

One key matchup to watch for will be Asante Samuel, the Eagles expensive free agent acquisition from the off-season, against Plaxico Burress and the Giants wide receiving corps.

Samuel required big money when testing the free agent waters. The time is now for him to prove that he is worth the big bucks.

Last season, Donovan McNabb was sacked fifteen times in the two meetings against the Giants. If his protection is as mediocre as it was last season, it is going to be a long game for him.

The Giants may be without Usi Umenyiora, a top defensive lineman from last season, but their defense has still recorded 30 sacks in eight games this season.

The Eagles offensive line against the Giants defensive front will be one of the most entertaining matchups to watch.

The Eagles have struggled in the red zone this season, if they have to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns, the Giants will win this game.

Three points in this game favor the Eagles, but I believe the New York Giants will step up on the road and remain the only one loss team in the NFC.

They will pound the ball with Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward, which will set up play-action to Burress.

Eli Manning has become one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the NFL this season. He threw 20 interceptions last season, but is only on pace for ten this season.

Place your bets on the Super Bowl champion Giants winning this game and clearing the
Eagles three point spread.

Bottom Line: Giants 31, Eagles 23.
