Gay student offers marriage perspective
Even though I am a Christian lesbian, I do not care if gay marriage is legal or not. Actually there are many in the LGBT community, including my girlfriend, that are against it. I want the same rights and benefits as married straight couples, but I believe gay marriage is up to the individual churches and not the government.
If and when I decide to “marry” another woman, I believe God will acknowledge what we have promised each other. He is a big boy, pretty much the biggest, so I do not think He makes up His mind based on what some churches and governments say.
We do not
need the government’s permission to love who we love or be with them
for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately, however, I do need their
permission to see the person I love in the hospital or adopt children
with them.
I appreciate
the articles in the newspaper supporting gay marriage, but we cannot
change people’s religious beliefs. Let us instead work towards granting
gay couples the same rights and benefits as straight couples.

Gay marriage not supported by scripture, law
Gay marriage should be opposed.
Recently,
unelected judges on the California Supreme Court decided to make up the
right of gay marriage, although no such right exists.
Remember, our
founding fathers said our rights were given to us from God, so calling
gay marriage a right is a joke and a fallacy.
Thankfully, the people of California passed a constitutional amendment on Election Day that banned such marriages.
When Jesus
was asked questions about marriage, he went straight back to the
defining passages in Genesis that say marriage is between male and
female.
Today, it
seems that many liberals would like to treat the Bible as a living
document that changes over time to fit their desires, just as they
envision our Constitution.
Both mean exactly what they say. God is who he is, and not who we may want him to be.
Some people
would argue there should be complete separation between church and
state, but this concept was invented by liberals.
The First
Amendment says “Congress shall make no law concerning an establishment
of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” State
governments are not Congress and have the power to make laws based upon
religion. Marriage has always been an issue handled by the states, and
they have the power to legislate it how they want.
America was
founded as a Christian nation and should remain one. Legitimizing gay
marriage would support an entire life built around sin. We should love
the sinner, but not the sin.
