A 21-year-old Appalachian State University male student was stabbed with a knife Sunday at approximately 2:30 a.m. during an attempted robbery on Howard Street.
The victim, a junior majoring in hospitality and tourism management who requested his name be withheld, reported to Boone Police that he was approached in the area of 100 Howard St. by a white male who demanded his wallet.
The victim did not
immediately comply with the request and a struggle ensued, with the
student sustaining a stab wound to the chest and other minor injuries,
according to the police report.
“If it had gone this way or that way, it could have been bad,” Detective David Osborne, lead investigator for the case, said.
After the incident, the victim was admitted to Watauga Medical Center for treatment.
Osborne said injuries to the victim were serious, but not life-threatening.
“He’s doing well now,” Osborne said. “He has been released from the medical center.”
Currently
no suspect has been named, but an investigation is underway to identify
and apprehend the man associated with the attempted armed robbery and
assault with a deadly weapon.
“We haven’t identified a suspect yet,” Osborne said. “I am looking into some things to identify this man.”
A description of the suspect is vague.
He is
described as a white male––approximately 6 feet tall, mid-to-late 20s,
medium build, wearing dark colored clothing and a dark toboggan.
