Fans go gaga over Lady Gaga’s wardrobe
Madonna was one of the first to translate underwear (leotards) as outerwear. But there’s a new pop icon on the scene who has made “less is more” her mantra: Lady Gaga.
Hardly shy about wearing over the top costumes both on and off stage, she stands out from most women of Pop because of her complete ensemble of hair, sometimes pinned into a Minnie Mouse bow on the top of her head, and nails, perfectly studded with rhinestones.
From her shock of blonde hair to her non-existent fashion fears, people
might assume that Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina
Germanotta, is another Christina Aguilera or Gwen Stefani clone.
Despite
the similarity of hair, critics accused Aguilera of copying Lady Gaga
for her last album, the greatest hits collection “Keeps Gettin'
Better,” but when asked by The Times, she was “completely unaware of
this person” and “[didn’t] know if it (Gaga) is a man or a woman.”
Other ‘copycats’ include Nicole Richie, who recently posed in Blackbook magazine with a long blonde wig that was obviously Gaga-inspired.
Even
after attending school with Paris and Nicky Hilton, Lady Gaga refused
to let anyone dictate to her what her personal style should be.
She told the UK Daily Mail, “'Some girls were mean. They made fun of me because I dressed differently and played in bands.”
In a W
magazine article, she noted that she wore a lot of prism, diamond-like,
mirror costumes so she looked like a disco ball. Other costumes include
swathes of bubble wrap, or a big-shouldered blazer sans pants.
Her
ensembles are more so sculptures and costumes than they are an
everyday, run of the mill outfit. Haus of GaGa, her own creative
production team, creates fashion styles and props for her use on stage.
With her outlandish outfits, Gaga hopes to inspire other artists and stay flashy while doing so.
“And, now, I’m just trying to change the world one sequin at a time,” she said in W magazine.
