Jameson L. Pulsifer, freshman music performance major, was accused of multiple criminal charges related to graffiti by Boone Police Saturday.
According to a Boone Police news release, a man was confronted by a manager at Hardees of the New Market Center for painting graffiti in the men’s restroom.

The manager smelled paint as soon as he walked inside the restroom, and upon opening one of the stall doors, discovered a white male with brown hair, wearing shorts and a red backpack, who ran from the vicinity.

The manager also discovered a red crown type design in the bathroom.

Pulsifer, found sitting on the front porch of Mike’s Inland Seafood restaurant, was then arrested in connection with the incident.

Boone Police Detective Matt Stevens said police found several spray can caps in his backpack.

The screen saver on Pulsifer’s cell phone displayed the word “BURST” written in a graffiti style and he had light blue spray paint on his belongings.

An investigation showed the person responsible for the graffiti was also likely responsible for other acts of graffiti in Boone, including the markings of the words “BURST” and “TRIDE.”

Boone Police searched Pulsifer’s apartment and are also using several items they gained for ongoing investigation.

“Additional charges will probably be forthcoming, but it looks as though he’s responsible for quite a bit of graffiti in town,” Stevens said.

Pulsifer remains in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $2,800 bond and will go to court May 15 for charges concerning seven counts of injury to property.

“A case like this will probably be a preliminary court date,” Stevens said.

University Police are also investigating three cases of graffiti on campus they believe may be linked to Pulsifer.

“We had one at the [Belk Library & Information Commons] and two at the Turchin Center,” Detective Darrin L. Tolbert said. “What we are seeing is the word ‘BURST’ and possibly the word ‘TRIDE.’”

Despite the crown design found in Hardees, Tolbert said there is no correlation between Pulsifer and past crown-type graffiti on campus.

“[The crown] is easy to do and people like to copycat,” Tolbert said. “[These incidents] are fairly new and the suspect is new to the area. This is his first semester, so I don’t think there’s any evidence from the past that is related to this.”

Tolbert said Pulsifer will likely not receive any jail time for on-campus violations due to his lack of a criminal record, but will face community service, probation and charges for damages if he is found guilty.
