The Appalachian State University Athletics Department offices in Varsity Gymnasium were broken into at approximately 12 a.m. Monday.

At least four offices were broken into, Assistant Athletics Director of Sports Information Mike Flynn said.

“A bunch of electronic equipment including laptops and audio-visual equipment were taken,” Flynn said. “We had some hard drives that were taken from our video production studio that included a lot of archived material. Some of the [digital video] wasn’t backed up anywhere else and is possibly lost forever.”

Lt. Todd Corley of University Police said there was no sign of forced entry into the building.

“They made it through a door that was unsecured because it was new construction,” Corley said. “[Once inside the building] they actually went from the hallway through the ceiling tiles into different offices.”

Corley said there have been no suspects or motives established at this time.

“We’re still investigating,” Corley said. “I’m hoping someone will hear someone talking about it or come forward. If we do receive information we will roll it into Crime Stoppers and get someone some money for providing us information that leads to an arrest.”
