Appalachian State came to an agreement last week for a football series with the Montana Griz and the McNeese State Cowboys starting in 2012.
The Mountaineers will host Montana in 2012 and McNeese State in 2015.
Appalachian will travel to Missoula, Mont. in 2013 to take on the Griz and will visit Lake Charles, La. in 2014 to face the Cowboys.
“This is good for
Appalachian, but it’s especially good for all of FCS football,” head
coach Jerry Moore said to goasu.com. “People look forward to games like
Ohio State-Texas and Notre Dame-USC on the FBS level, so it’s great to
give fans of our programs and FCS in general the opportunity to have
games of a similar magnitude to look forward to as well. Also, I’ve
always been a believer that to become a good football team, you have to
play good football teams and these matchups certainly fit the bill in
that regard.”
The home teams in the series will payout $100,000 to the visitor.
Appalachian will face McNeese State Sept. 12 in a game that is not a part of the series.
