Boone Town Council member Liz Aycock surprised the community late last month by announcing her resignation nearly six months before her term ended.
Aycock, who was elected in a runoff in 2007, has been forced to resign due to procedure.
“We’re moving to a new home and we put our current house on the market
six months before my term ended,” Aycock said. “Someone came up with an
offer quickly and that’s fairly unheard right now, so we took it."
Because those serving on
Town Council must live within town limits, Aycock looked for temporary
housing but was unable to find a location.
In the case of a vacancy on Town Council, the town accepts applications
and chooses a member to serve the remaining term. Aycock says she
supports both Andrew Ball and Jamie Leigh for the position.
“Andy is young and would do well representing young people,” Aycock
said. “I was the youngest on council and it’s good to have youth
because they have great ideas.”
Aycock was also quick to point out the strengths of Leigh, who has a financial background.
“She’ll be good with our tough budget and make prudent use of funds,” she said.
