1. Learn how to stay warm in Boone – practice by getting comfortable while engulfed in flames.

2. Become acquainted with long johns.

3. Remember that you are now living on a college campus and, unlike at your previous home, there are interesting things to do.

4. Go hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the country and you’ll be enchanted by it.

5. See some shows on campus – this is one of your last chances to see a grown man dress up as Catwoman.

6. Go skiing. Or, if you’re not into that kind of thing, go sledding – it’s cheaper and presents the same danger of bodily harm.

7. Strike a balance between your studies and your social life. Don’t flunk out, but go make some friends.

8. Find a way to make your voice heard. Join The Appalachian, go to some open forums, write to Chancellor Peacock, whatever.

9. Even if you’re not into this kind of thing, you really ought to go to a football game.

10. Be open-minded.
