High school students and their families gathered at Holmes Convocation Center for Fall Open House Saturday to learn about the university and hear several speakers, including Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock and Student Government Association President Jonathan H. Meisner.

Peacock said even though the university is suffering from budget cuts, the goal of the university is still to provide students with the resources they need to graduate in four years.

“We are among the best institutions in the Southeast and the nation,” Peacock said.

Appalachian State University is tied with the University of Charleston for the number nine ranking in the category of “Best Universities-Master’s in the South,” according to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2009 America’s Best Colleges Guide.
