States hit hardest by the economic recession will most likely receive an extension in unemployment benefits in a Congressional vote next week.
Unemployed residents of states with an average unemployment rate of at least 8.5 percent over the last three months will receive a 13-week extension to their unemployment insurance benefit in the proposed expansion, according to the Dow Jones Newswires.
North Carolina is currently ranked 11th in the nation for the highest unemployment rate and will be among the states eligible to borrow additional funds from the federal government, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
