Susan Davies and Rose Reinhart have joined university administration as the new associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Registrar, respectively.

Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education David P. Haney said there was a lot of turnover in those two areas over the past year, and he is glad to have found two permanent officials.

Last year, the university hired search firms and started a committee to fill these two positions. In the end, they invited three possible candidates to the university and Provost Stan R. Aeschleman made the final decision.

Reinhart, who joined the university Sept. 1, said as registrar, she is responsible for the student records and maintaining their correctness and their integrity and their security.

“My position deals with making sure that a student’s academic history accurately reflects what the student [needs] while they’re at the institution,” Reinhart said.

Reinhart said her main goals include developing the degree audit system with her staff and the institution.

Both women have a number of plans to improve student’s experience at the university.

“I have been so appreciative of the willingness of the Appalachian family to welcome my position and ideas,” Davies said. “Clearly, this is a very special place.”

Davies, the associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management, was previously the admissions director aat Georgia Southern University and joined Appalachian July 1.

Davies is responsible for the supervision of the Office of Admissions, the Office of the Registrar and the College Awareness Program (Upward Bound, GEAR-UP, and Western North Carolina Network for Access & Success).

Davies said she has many plans for improvement in the university.

These include: developing an enrollment management plan to achieve the enrollment goals outlined in Appalachian’s Strategic Plan in order to increase enrollment in underrepresented populations and starting a degree audit software program which will allow students and advisers to closely follow degree progression.
