Construction crews accidently severed a cable line in front of Rankin North, disabling Charter Cable services on campus at 1 p.m.
“When it was installed, they put it in wrong,” Physical Plant Assistant Director Patrick S. Brittain said. “It ran around a steam line and was covered in concrete.”
Brittain said there are many old, inactive cables around campus, and the construction crew was not aware of the line.
“Ninety-nine
times out of a 100 we run into a lot of old cables and nothing
happens,” Brittain said. “They didn’t even know it was there.”
There is no estimated repair time, and the status of the cable is currently unknown, Brittain said.
After
speaking with residents of White and Belk Residence Halls and Plemmons
Student Union employees, the cable service appears to be functioning
normally as of 4:40 p.m.
