The Boone Fire Department responded to a fire at The Peddler Steakhouse located off U.S. Highway 321 at 1:28 p.m. Tuesday.
Captain Jimmy Isaacs said firefighters arrived on the scene after multiple 911 calls reported smoke coming from the building.
Isaacs said when officers arrived, the building had moderate smoke conditions in the front and back of the building.
The Peddler is closed during breakfast and lunch, so the building was empty and locked.
Firefighters forced entry into the building and found extensive smoke damage to the front of the building, and fire damage in the kitchen.
“The fire was of an accidental nature,” Isaacs said. “Combustibles were placed too close to a heat source and caused the fire.”
The incident report indicated an estimated $100,000 of property damage and a further $85,000 of damage to contents.
Isaacs said firefighters quickly controlled the fire in the kitchen.
He said the fire was under control within 30 minutes of the 911 calls and no one was injured.
Firefighters stayed on the scene until 5:29 p.m. investigating the cause of the fire and salvaging damaged ductwork and contents of the restaurant, according to the incident report.
