The Appalachian awards its picks for male and female athlete of the month. Here is the January female recipient.

“She came back from the summer very focused athletically and academically and in the best shape of her career,” Appalachian State women’s basketball coach Adrienne Shuler said of Danielle Edwards.
Because of this focus and her leadership on and off the court, junior Danielle Edwards has earned the Female Athlete of the Month from The Appalachian Sports Desk.
Edwards is one of three team captains and leads the team in rebounding with 8.3 per game, and points with 11.0 per game.
Edwards has scored a team high in points four times this season. Edwards has also been the team leader in rebounds eight times during the year.
“She obviously adds a great deal to this team, as the leading scorer and rebounder and as one of the top players in the conference,” Shuler said. “As well as Danielle is playing, I still believe the best is yet to come.”
