Nearly 800 hungry pancake lovers showed up to Kappa Delta’s 15th Annual Shamrock Pancake Dinner Friday.
The Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta served all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon and beverages to a crowd who waited in a line that wrapped around the halls of the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center. Kappa Delta currently has around 80 members, who were each required to sell 20 tickets, Thore said.
Tickets cost $5 and money raised benefits the Watauga Children’s Council.
“This event is the biggest funding Watauga Children’s Council receives,
so they are excited to get any money we can give them,” senior public
relations major Cathleen E. Thore, a Kappa Delta member who coordinated
the event, said.
Although final calculations have not been totalled, Thore estimates they raised about $13,000.
Sophomore J. Ryan Davenport was the first person in line for the dinner.
“I’m pledging for Kappa Sigma, and we’re all coming out for the dinner. I got a free T-shirt too,” Davenport said.
Three-hundred free T-shirts turned out to be an effective incentive for people who arrived early to make sure to receive one.
Thore said she was very pleased with the turnout. This year, the room
was two times the size of the room last year and there were 25 tables
opposed to last year’s 14.
“It’s definitely crazier this year, but it’s great,” Thore said.
