Parking on Appalachian State University’s campus is known to be difficult—even during the summer sessions.
Although the number of students who take classes decreases during the summer months, it is still important to remember regular rules still apply in regards to parking on campus. According to Appalachian’s Parking and Traffic Web site, the management of the 6, 500 parking spaces available is made possible by vehicle registration as well as an enforcement of the registration.

| Director of University Parking and Traffic Barry Sauls provided several reminders to those who come to the university often to attend class and wish to park on campus.
“Rules and regulations do apply for the summer sessions just as they do for the fall and spring [semesters],” Sauls said.
According to the Web site, the regulations are in effect to maintain
both the safety and the welfare of the community at Appalachian.
It is still necessary for students to have valid parking permits to park on campus from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sauls said.
Those who have questions regarding permits can call 262-2878.
It is important to remember a parking permit is issued for a designated
lot on-campus. Students need to park in that assigned lot only, Sauls
said.
University Parking and Traffic is currently selling parking permits for
the 2008-09 school year, which are available online through AppalNET.
According to the Web site, graduate students as well as seniors have
been able to register for permits as of June 2, and juniors have had
access to permits since June 9.
Sophomores were able to begin parking registration Monday, and freshman will gain access to permits on July 1.
“The last day to register online for a parking permit is July
31…Beginning August 11, if any permits remain available, they can be
purchased in person at the parking office,” Sauls said.
He said fees remain unchanged for the seventh consecutive year, and the last parking fee increase was implemented in 2003.
“I think you would be hard pressed to find something else on campus
that has not gone up in price at all over the same period of time,”
Sauls said.
