The Welborn Cafeteria line, Noodleworks and wrAPPS will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday to begin the transportation of equipment to the new Central Dining Facility, which will open in January.

The changes come as part of phase one of the new dining hall, which entails moving the aforementioned eateries to the new cafeteria.

The second phase will see the creation of more dining space with an additional 660 seats.

Director of Food Services W. Ron Dubberly hopes to make the transition smooth, but knows the experience will be trying for students and faculty.

“I beg the students, staff and faculty to be patient with us because it’s going to be very demanding and it’s not going to be seamless,” he said.

The changes come during exam period, which Dubberly knows will be inconvenient.

“I know that students are going to be put out by us closing facilities right during finals,” he said. “I know that’s going to be a headache and

I apologize upfront because I know it’s going to be hard to change your routines and find somewhere else to eat.”

With a good portion of Food Services closed, the weeks after Thanksgiving are likely to feature long lines at the remaining dining areas such as Park Place Café, McAlister’s Deli and Cascades Café.

Dubberly said students can carry out food instead of eating at the cafeteria, and suggests eating at restaurants such as the Jackson

Dining Room in the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center or other on-campus options.

Though construction of the new cafeteria began in June 2006, plans for a new cafeteria have been formulating since 1996, Dubberly said.

The new dining room in Rivers Street Café will have 960 seats, plus 64 seats reserved for faculty.

Chick-fil-A will operate until Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m., and the Food Court in Welborn Cafeteria will remain open until Dec. 14.

Breakfast will still be provided in the Food Court from Dec. 1 to Dec. 14.

Other food services will remain open through Dec. 21.
