Mofford fails to faithfully execute presidential office
Student Government Association presidential and vice presidential candidates declared their tickets Friday.
As campaigning begins the week after Spring Break, The Appalachian expects candidates to follow through with campaign platforms.
Despite campaign promises to use student media, current SGA President David M. Mofford has often refused to comment on important issues affecting the Appalachian community, including the election of President Barack Obama and the creation of JuicyCampus.com.
In refusing to
comment, Mofford has both failed to live up to campaign promises and
displayed an incredible amount of apathy towards the students he serves.
Students pay $1 towards SGA in their student activity fee.
The Appalachian questions where this dollar is going when Mofford is not doing the job for which he was elected.
We ask whoever is elected for the 2009-10 academic year to be responsive, visible and available to students.
We also ask the SGA administration to employ the use of student media outlets including The Appalachian and WASU.
The Appalachian, WASU and SGA are all in place to serve students.
These three outlets should work together as sources of information; however, Mofford has refused to work with The Appalachian despite the ease and importance of doing so.
The Appalachian expects the new SGA administration to motivate students and encourage them to be active on campus and in the community.
The SGA president is elected by the students and is, by definition, a representation of the student body.
He or she needs to act as such.
