The Decemberists release rock opera

by ALLISON CASEY
Lifestyles Editor

The Decemberists’ new experimental album “Hazards of Love” is a dramatic journey of love told in the old-fashioned way only Colin Meloy can.

The rock opera must be listened to all at once for full effect, as the songs individually make little sense out of context.

The album is set to be released next Tuesday, but was prematurely leaked to the Internet and is now available on iTunes.

“Hazards of Love” is a definite step up from “The Crane Wife” but still not quite as impressive as “Picaresque.”

“Outliers” investigates success stories

by LAURA TABOR
Lifestyles Reporter

Once again, Malcolm Gladwell proves that non-fiction is still relevant; his third book, “Outliers” is still at the top of the New York Times Best Seller List.

After his success with “Blink” and “The Tipping Point,” Gladwell tackles the potential inherent in different people, and whether or not success is really dependent on personal ambition.

The draw of all of these books is that they make us think about our ordinary lives in a different way, and how he uses specific examples from hockey players to rice farming.

Follow the trend, and check this book out; Gladwell, of all people, knows quite a bit about success.
