New SGA leaders seek student input
Tuesday, 28 April 2009

Dear students of Appalachian State University,

This past year has been a year of many changes.  On a national level, we have had a change in the United States president.

On a local level, we now have liquor by the drink in Boone and a brand new cafeteria.

As the school year is coming to an end, Michele and I are working hard on transitioning to serving as your new student government president and vice president.  By the end of this week, we will officially be the new voices of the student body.

During our administration there are many changes that will take place to better serve you.  Some of the things SGA will do will be visible changes like revamping the SGA Web site design and layout and being more active in the campus community.

There are also things that you may not be able to see, but we want to assure you will happen.  Some of those things include voting for and vocalizing support for student legislation/wants in the Board of Trustee meetings.  It also includes standing up for students to keep the tailgating spots we still have. We will be spending our summer in Boone to work for you and make sure your voices are heard, even when school may not be in session.

As we said during our campaign, there is no way only two students can know every single idea or need students have at Appalachian by sitting in an office.  This is why we are making it our personal commitment to you to reach out and visit as many groups and organizations as possible to get your thoughts and ideas heard.

Not only are we making it our job to be visible in the Appalachian community, but we are ensuring that the cabinet members we are selecting are going to dedicate their time to reach out to students through clubs and organizations that relate to their areas of expertise.

I would like to officially invite you to come into our SGA offices next year and talk with us about any issue or idea that you have.

SGA is here to listen to our fellow students and carry out the will of the student body and we plan to do just that throughout the coming school year.  We know the actions of SGA may not have been well known in the past and we are going to strive to change that.

Please keep an eye out during the coming school year for the many changes we hope to make on campus and don’t be afraid to let us know how we are doing and voice your thoughts and opinions.

If there is ever a time when you feel as if your voice is not being heard, please come and talk to us about it.  We are located on the second floor of Plemmons Student Union, across from the Center for Student Involovement and Leadership office.

While we may have busy schedules, we promise to always make time to meet and listen to our fellow students.

Good luck to all on final exams and have a fun and safe summer break!
