New Editorial Board promises to work closely with community
Tuesday, 28 April 2009

Next year will be a year of growth for The Appalachian student newspaper. We have a challenge ahead of us as difficulties arise with the state of the economy, the publication’s budget and the changing world of journalism.

However, The Appalachian will continue coverage of local, state, national and world events in a timely and thorough manner through both our print and online editions. Despite budget cuts, we will still push forward as a twice-weekly print publication, but will also update The Appalachian Web site daily with new content.

The Web site will receive a redesign for next year, and we encourage readers to utilize this site as the go-to place for news directly affecting Appalachian State University students.

As journalism continues to move in an online direction, we realize the importance of establishing our Web site as an accurate, up-to-date publication with stories, photos, blogs and varieties of multimedia.

The Appalachian wishes to assure readers we will continue to remain a forum for our readers, which includes all students, faculty, staff and members of the Boone community.

We encourage—and take seriously—all letters to the editor and online comments, and hope our readers will see The Appalachian as an open avenue.

The Appalachian stresses the importance of questioning our stories, the administration and the surrounding world as you examine issues on your own.

To the 2008-09 Editorial Board—thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. You have given up countless days and nights for this newspaper and each of you will be remembered in the Student Publications office. Good luck to each of you as you enter new stages in your life, and also, best wishes to Appalachian’s graduating class of 2009.

Sincerely,

Anne baker
Editor-in-Chief
