Wide receiver CoCo Hillary suffered a season-ending injury on Tuesday afternoon, Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Information Mike Flynn said.

The 5-10, 190 pound junior sustained a knee ligament injury in a non-contact drill during practice.

Due to HIPAA regulations, no information could be released detailing the player’s specific injuries.

Hillary was named to the 2009 preseason second-team all-Southern Conference for his efforts at both wide receiver and kick returner.

As one of quarterback Armanti Edwards’s most used receivers, Hillary has caught 37 passes for 517 yards, and scored four touchdowns.

At the beginning of the 2009 season, Hillary needed only 13 kick returns and 139 kickoff return yards to become the Appalachian State all-time leader in both categories. He surpassed these marks early in the season, and became the Mountaineers’ top kick returner with 21 returns for 522 yards.

In 2008 he appeared in 14 games—12 as wide receiver—and led the team in receptions (56) and receiving yards (735). With 1,465 all-purpose yards, Hillary was over 500 yards ahead of the next Mountaineer in the category (Edwards at 941).

Hillary was on track to personal records in receptions, receiving yardage, touchdowns and return yardage during the 2009 season.
